F-Gases

F-Gases are “fluorinated greenhouse gases”, including HFCs, PFCs and SF6.  F-Gases are the most powerful greenhouse gases, with global warming potentials (GWPs) that are typically between 1,000 and 20,000 times higher than CO2.

Ray Gluckman has been investigating the use and emissions of F-Gases for over 20 years.  In 1995 he prepared the first UK emissions inventory for F-Gases on behalf of the UK Government.  Since that time he has carried out numerous F-Gas projects for the UK Government, the European Commission, other Governments and for private sector clients.

Key services in this field include:

  • F-Gas inventories: estimating the use and emissions of F-Gases from all relevant markets.
  • Evaluation of alternatives: Use of high GWP F-Gases will not be acceptable in the long term.  We have extensive knowledge of the various moderate GWP and low GWP alternatives to F-Gases.  Both end users and policy makers need to understand the most cost effective opportunities to reduce use of high GWP F-Gases.
  • Policy development and implementation: We can help provide technical support to assist policy makers develop new Regulations (e.g. the 2014 EU F-Gas Regulation) and also help them implement the detailed requirements at country level.
